Thermostats, timers, zone valves, immersion heaters and hot water cylinders. Getting the controls right is often the cheapest improvement in the whole house.

- Why is my radiator cold at the top but warm at the bottom?
- That is usually trapped air, and bleeding the radiator often fixes it. If a radiator is cold at the bottom and warm at the top it is the opposite problem, sludge sitting in the base, and that needs flushing rather than bleeding.
- Do I need a powerflush?
- Only if the system genuinely has a sludge problem, which usually shows as cold spots at the bottom of radiators, slow warm-up or a boiler working harder than it should. Dan will tell you when a flush is worth doing and when it is not.
- Why is one room in the house always colder than the rest?
- Often the system is unbalanced, so radiators nearest the boiler take most of the flow and the far ones get what is left. Balancing the system costs nothing in parts and frequently fixes it without a new radiator.
- Will a new boiler fix my heating problems?
- Not on its own. A boiler heats the water, but if circulation is poor, radiators are sludged or the controls are wrong, a new boiler will disappoint you in exactly the same way. Dan looks at the whole system before recommending a replacement.
