First thing to do with any leak is find the stopcock and turn the water off. Then ring me and I will talk you through it before I set off.
No heating or hot water
A dead boiler in the middle of a Lancashire winter counts as an emergency, especially with children or older people in the house. I diagnose the fault properly rather than guessing at parts.
Gas worries
If you smell gas, ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first and get out. Once it is made safe, I can sort the appliance side as a registered engineer.
Blockages & overflows
Toilets that will not clear, overflowing tanks, drains backing up. Unpleasant jobs that get worse the longer they are left, and I would rather come out than have you live with it.

- What should I do first if a pipe bursts?
- Turn the water off at the stopcock, which is usually under the kitchen sink or near the front door, then call Dan on 07949 353536. Getting the water off is the single thing that limits the damage, and he will talk you through the rest on the phone.
- I can smell gas. What do I do?
- Do not ring a plumber first. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately, turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely, open windows and get everyone out. Once the supply has been made safe, Dan can sort the appliance side as a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- What actually counts as a plumbing emergency?
- Water you cannot stop, no heating or hot water in cold weather, a boiler that has locked out, a blocked toilet in a one-bathroom house, or any smell of gas. In Preston, a dead boiler with children or older people in the house counts as urgent, not something to leave until Monday.
- Do you really answer the phone at night?
- Dan answers his own phone rather than routing you to a call centre that has closed. If he genuinely cannot get to you quickly enough he will tell you that on the call instead of leaving you waiting, which is more use to you than a promise nobody keeps.
